Here’s a story.
Long long time ago, when the internet was a slightly kinder and more fun place — there was this thing called the blogosphere. My site was Radiofreenyc.org.
The reason why I was a Dot.Org, was because Dot.Com was taken, and Dot.NYC wasn’t invented yet.
RadiofreeNYC.Org was a blog, but it was more of an anything/nothing site. I wrote about everything from video games, to girls, to music, to politics. Yeah, I know. I’m not proud of what I wrote all the time, I’m actually sorry for a lot of it. It was a different time, and Maxim wasn’t a great influence on me.
Anyway, I loved that shit-hole of site. There was a magic to it, like how there’s a magic to a pirate radio station. I coded the entire thing myself, from scratch. I installed software, pirated Adobe and Dreamweaver. I’d break it, fix it again, update it, and accidentally drop the MySql tables. I’d go through all of that just so I could feel the rush of publishing something.
Sometimes, okay a lot of the times, I let the rush get to my head. Sometimes, I’d publish things I things I shouldn’t have. Or I’d make up something. It wasn’t like fake news, but more like just fictionalizing parts of my life.
The term now is autofiction, back then it was called “total bollocks.” According to one person anyway.
Despite the issues, problems, or fights it caused — RadioFreeNYC.org was where I’d scream my feels, thoughts, complaints into the void. Then one day, when I was trying to update the CMS the site broke completely. I’d try to bring it back, but not that hard. If anything, I felt it was a sign that the site has run its course.
I don’t know why I’m bringing it back now. Maybe it’s because the void got bigger, and the world got worse. Maybe, I’m willing to take shit more seriously — doubtful, but you know. Or maybe it’s because managed to snag RadioFree.NYC for cheap.
But here I am, I ain’t hiding. RadioFreeNYC.org is back… In spirit.
